Woman Charged In Crash That Killed Bensalem Mother, Daughter

Adyaan Zuhair Swad Al Baidhani, 21, was charged for causing the October crash that killed Bensalem residents Rafaela and Celene Serrato.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — A Northampton woman has been charged for her alleged involvement in the October car crash that killed and mother and her daughter.

According to the Bucks County Courier Times, Adyaan Zuhair Swad Al Baidhan, 21, was charged for allegedly causing the crash that killed Bensalem residents Rafaela Serrato, 50, and Celene Serrato, who was just days away from turning 30.

According to Bensalem police, Al Baidhan was driving 30 mph over the speed limit at the time of the crash, which occurred on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m.

Police said that Al Baidhan was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangle when she made a turn to avoid another car that had cut her off on Knights Road. She then went into the northbound lane, where she struck the 2003 Dodge Caravan that the Serratos were in.

Family members created a GoFundMe page for the Serratos, which has raised $27,655 of the $30,000 goal.

"This is was a very tragic day for the Serrato family and for all our related family seeing how both of them were a big part of our lives and both were amazing women," said Jasmine Serrato, the daughter of Rafaela and sister of Celene.

She also wrote that the two were out to buy items for an upcoming wedding and Celene's upcoming birthday.

Al Baidhan has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday.

The driver Al Baidhan was trying to avoid, Juliana Ferreira-Rocha, 40, of Bensalem, has also been charged for her involvement in the accident, as she did not yield to oncoming traffic or stop after the accident happened. She was charged with two counts of felony accidents involving death or personal injury and two counts of misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person. She is currently free on $25,000 unsecured bail.

Ferreira-Rocha will also be at the preliminary hearing.
