Bethlehem Woman Dies in New Jersey Car Accident

Candic Gerwer, 34, passed away following the Saturday accident. The driver, John Grewer III, is in being treated at Robert Wood Johnson.

Candice Gerwer, 34, of Bethlehem, Pa. died after a single-car accident on Route 22 in Bridgewater, NJ on Saturday afternoon.

Police said John Gerwer III of Somerville was changing lanes in a 2003 Ford Mustang when he lost control, entering the westbound portion of the highway from Ronson Road. The car spun and struck a utility pole in front of America’s Best Value Inn.

John Gerwer was ejected from the car. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Candice Gerwer was transported to the same hospital, but she died shortly after arriving.

Local police were assisted at the scene by State Police, Green Knoll and North Branch Fire Departments and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital – Somerset Rescue Squad Unit 802 and Paramedic Units 681 and 682.

The accident is being investigated by the Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau. Any witnesses are asked to contact Kennedy at 908-722-4111, ext. 4162.
