Begin indoors by getting up close with our fascinating wildlife ambassadors and learn how these amazing animals adapt to winter’s challenges. Then, bundle up for a guided hike through the trails of Trexler Nature Preserve, where you might discover animal tracks and signs of wildlife activity amid the peaceful winter landscape. This family-friendly program is perfect for all ages and offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature during the winter season. Your registration matters — it helps us prepare for animal handling and manage group size to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. No binoculars? No problem — we’ll have some available for you to borrow.&nbsp; Bundle up, bring your curiosity, and enjoy a peaceful winter morning in nature! This program is great for adults and interested youth.

Please bring cookies, crackers, cheese, other snack foods , or frest fruits to share. We’ll provide hot cocoa, coffee, and tea. It won’t be lunch, but it’s a great chance to relax and connect with fellow walkers around the warmth of the fire.
This family-friendly event welcomes all ages. Be sure to dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes suitable for winter trails.

At Wildlands Conservancy, we’ve installed nest boxes throughout the scenic Thomas Darling Preserve to support and monitor these elusive creatures. So far, several of the more common Southern Flying Squirrels have made these boxes their home, giving us a fascinating glimpse into the forest’s dynamic wildlife.
This is more than just a hike—it’s a scientific exploration of one of Pennsylvania’s most unique and ecologically significant landscapes. Join us as we venture through this vast 1,300-acre preserve, home to one of the state’s largest and most pristine spruce forests. We’ll take a guided hike through this unique habitat, check the nest boxes for signs of flying squirrels, and—if we’re lucky—get to meet a few of these fascinating creatures up close!Questions?
