Ribbon Cut On New Backdoor Bakeshop On Broad Street

Initially known for its desserts, bakeshop has expanded to sell breakfast and lunch.

Mayor John Callahan celebrated the opening of the new Backdoor Bakeshop on E. Broad Street today with owner Gail Lehman.

The shop, well known around the city for its grab-and-go desserts, has relocated from 1422 Center St. to a larger space at the corner of Broad and Center streets, closer to downtown.

The new shop at 92 E. Broad St. has also expanded its menu to include breakfast and lunch to go, including an assortment of sandwiches and quiches, as well as Lehman’s delectable baked goodsβ€”cookies, cupcakes and brownies.

β€œWe all know Gail’s skills as a baker and chef,” Callahan told about 30 people who gathered at the center city corner to celebrate the shop’s opening. β€œToday, we celebrate her skills as an entrepreneur.”

The original Backdoor Bakeshop opened six years ago. The business grew through dessert distribution to a number of restaurants and cafes in and near the city.

β€œI’m always proud every time a business moves to Bethlehem,” Callahan said. β€œI’m even more proud when it expands here.”
