Chartiers Valley High School Hosting Lifeguard Swim Test

Aquatics examinations are required for all Allegheny County parks applicants for the 2013 swimming season.

The Allegheny County Parks Department is holding an aquatics examination for lifeguards from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at Chartiers Valley Senior High School.

The parks department is seeking qualified applicants who are 16 years of age and older to fill lifeguard positions at South, Boyce, North and Settler’s Cabin Parks for the 2013 swimming season beginning June 1. Lifeguards must work throughout the entire swimming season, lasting from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. 

For these positions, the aquatics examination is required.

Prior to the exam, applicants must have a physical examination, a completed employment application form and a minimum of four references on the back of the application. No test will be given without doctor’s certification on the physical examination form.

Candidates must also present, prior to May 27, a current lifeguard training certification; current first aid certification; and current adult, child and infant CPR certification.

The parks department will pay lifeguards on the following scale:

  • $8.25 per hour for junior lifeguards
  • $9.25 per hour for first-year lifeguards
  • $9.50 per hour for senior lifeguards (2 or more seasons)
