Field Problems Wreck CV's Baseball Season
Woodville Field, where CV plays its home baseball games, won't be ready until half way through the season because soccer practices and drainage problems tore up the outfield.

The Woodville baseball field, where Chartiers Valley plays high school baseball, could be ready for ball in two weeks after soccer practices and drainage problems trashed the outfield.
The field problems have forced the varsity baseball team, which the WPIAL front-loaded its scheduled with home games, to play the first 12 games of the season on the road. Nine of those games were supposed to be played at Woodville, which is located off Thoms Run Road between the and .
Crews have installed drainage pipes and now are grading the field before laying down sod. School district officials are hoping the field will be ready for its first game of the season when the Colts are scheduled to play South Park on April 18, according to an e-mail sent from assistant Superintendent Scott Seltzer to parents.

“Right now we’re hoping to get our field ready,” Athletic Director Frank Vulcano Jr. said. “We hope to get the whole second half of the season at home.”
The field problems and road schedule upset some players’ parents–especially players who are seniors–because they were concerned the whole season would be away from home. The school tried to schedule some games at fields in Robinson and Green Tree, but were unsuccessful.

School and athletic officials are hoping if the field is ready by April 18, they can swap home field advantage with some of the schools the Colts already have played.
The problems with the field are not new. Two baseball boosters complained to the last month that the field needed improvements and better maintenance.
District officials said at the meeting that , and were preparing to work on a drainage problem if left field. But the repairs appear to have come too late to save the first part of the baseball season after the school’s soccer team used parts of the outfield for a few practices.
