Emmaus Borough Issues Water Boil Advisory

Water Main break affects residents from South 11th Street to South 13th Street.

Emmaus Borough has issued a "Boil Water Advisory" on its website as a result of a water main that broke early this morning.

About 98 residents were notified this morning about the main break and that they neeed to start boiling their drinking water as a precaution, Borough officials said.

The site states the break occured "at 1104 W. Jubilee Street. Customers located between South 11th Street to South 13th Street and from Pennsylvania Avenue to Jubilee Street, which is the section known as the Iobst section are hereby issued a Boiled Water Advisory."

The break was repaired this afternoon, and the Borough took a sample of the water to be tested.

The water boil advisory will remain in effect until the Borough determines there are no signs of coliform bacteria for two consecutive days of testing.

The advisory states that residents is this area should not drink tap water without boiling for at least one minute it first. Inadequately treated water can carry disease-causing organism that must be killed by heat.
