Mention "Lehigh Valley Conference" and most may think "sports."
Well, there is another kind of Lehigh Valley Conference activity. Call it "brain sport" (yes, athletics also require brains). But in the sport specifically testing brain power, this year's winner is Emmaus High School.
The Green Hornets' Academic Team won the conference championship with a 175-105 victory over Liberty High on Dec. 16.
The Academic Team competed in eight matches this season. Its road to victory included a win over Parkland to capture the Western Division title. Then it beat Liberty, winner of the Eastern Division.
Meanwhile, the junior varsity Academic Team acquitted itself respectably this season, taking second place in the Western Division.
The Western Division is made up of teams from Emmaus, Parkland, Central Catholic, Allen, Dieruff and Whitehall. The Eastern Division is Liberty, Freedom, Nazareth, Bethlehem Catholic, Easton and Northampton.
Information about the Emmaus team's success came to Patch from team adviser Brent Ohl via English teacher Bonnie Raub.
