$100K Scam, Identity Theft, Forgery, More: Haverford Crime Blotter

Haverford Township Police said a resident was scammed out of $100,000 by someone claiming to be from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — Haverford Police issued details on recent crimes that occurred in the township.

These incidents took place between March 5 and March 11.

The blotter also features arrests made and citations issued.

  • Retail Theft at Kohl’s, 200 block of West Chester Pike, on March 5 at 6:55 hours – An unknown female stole an unknown amount of travel perfumes from the Sephora section of the store.
  • Identity Theft at the 1300 block of Dill Road on March 5 at 4:43 p.m. – The victim reported that someone used her identity to open an AT&T account and purchase a cell phone.
  • Identity Theft at the 700 block of E. Manoa Road on March 5 at 1:30 p.m. – Victim reported that someone purchased an i-phone using his identity.
  • Theft at the unit block of Jacalyn Drive on March 6 at 7:42 a.m. – Victim reported she was the victim of a scam. She responded to a post on Facebook selling a vehicle. She paid $1,000 deposit via Apple Pay and then the “seller” blocked her.
  • Theft at the 1100 block of Garfield Avenue on March 6 at 5:06 p.m. – Victim reported multiple unauthorized purchases made on her Amazon account.
  • Disorderly Conduct at the 200 block of Whitemarsh Road on March 7 at 9:55 p.m. – Two juvenile males were cited for disorderly conduct and harassment.
  • Fraud at the 300 block of Sagamore Road on March 7 at 4:33 p.m. – Victim reported that someone made multiple unauthorized purchases on her Amazon account.
  • Theft at the unit block of Michael Road on March 7 at 1:49 p.m. – Victim reported he received a phone call from a person claiming to be from the United States Customs and Border Patrol Agency. They asked for his cooperation during an investigation under threat of charges being filed against him for his "involvement." The caller gave the legitimate name of an agent and spoofed the phone number. The victim believed it was an official call and completed the transactions that were requested. The total loss was approximately $100,000.
  • Theft at Wynnewood Lanes, 2200 block of Haverford Road, on March 8 at 10:37 p.m. – The victim reported that his cell phone was stolen while he left it unattended on a table.
  • Theft at the Xfinity Store, 100 block of W. Township Line Road, on March 9 at 12:05 p.m. – An iPhone was stolen from the break room.
  • Theft at the YMCA, 800 block of N. Eagle Road, on March 10 at 6:30 p.m. – The victim reported that his backpack was stolen from an unsecured locker.
  • Theft at the 2500 block of Chestnut Avenue on March 10 at 9 p.m. – A license plate was stolen from a vehicle.
  • Bicycle Theft at Lowe’s, 100 block of W. Township Line Road, on March 11 at 1712 hours.
  • Theft at the unit block of W. Eagle Road on March 11 at 1125 hours – PA tag was removed from a vehicle.

Arrests

  • 28-year-old male, 2200 block of Hobart Street, Philadelphia. Charges: Forgery, theft, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Location: Norman’s Hallmark, 1300 block of West Chester Pike. Date: March 6 at 6:33 p.m.
