PA Mom Charged After Girl, 3, Found Dead In Car

A 40-year-old mother from Havertown was taken into custody in Maine after her 3-year-old child was found dead in a vehicle this weekend.

HAVERTOWN, PA — A Delaware County mother was charged with manslaughter after police in Maine said her child was found dead in a vehicle over the weekend.

The Sheriff's Office in Penobscot County, Maine said its members were called to a business in Milford, Maine on Saturday night, where they found a 3-year-old girl dead in a vehicle.

Authorities learned the vehicle belonged to Kelly Brown, 40, of Havertown.

Brown was found nearby and detained by police at about 5 a.m. Sunday, and charged with manslaughter. An autopsy will be performed to determine her cause and manner of death.

Authorities said Brown and the child were subjects of an earlier issued attempt to locate and check on their well-being at the request of concerned family members.

After the child was found dead, the sheriff's office requested state authorities' assistance with the investigation.

Detectives and members of the Maine State Police Evidence Response Team responded to conduct an investigation in partnership with members of the sheriff's office.

Brown was booked at the Penobscot County Jail pending her appearance at the Penobscot Judicial Center.
