Cops to Patrol Haverford for DUI

The Northern Delaware County DUI Task Force Issues a Warning to Haverford Drivers

When it comes to DUI, police plan to be all over Haverford Township this weekend like green on shamrocks.

The Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce will be working in Haverford Township this St. Patrick's Day weekend.  The Task Force is made up of police from Haverford, Marple, Newtown, Radnor, Springfield and Upper Darby townships.

Haverford Police will be conducting roving DUI patrols within Haverford Township.

This Task Force Means Business

According to a press release from Haverford Police, the Northern Delaware County DUI Task Force has  been in operation since September 2009 and has conducted 39 operations to date. The task force has arrested 81 drivers for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol or drugs, issued 29 citations for underage drinking, 468 citations and 514 warnings for other motor vehicle violations.

The purpose of the Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce is to save lives on the roadways and reduce injuries by aggressively enforcing DUI laws. Sobriety checkpoints are a proactive visual deterrent while also removing impaired drivers; roving patrols are traffic details with the main goals to spot and stop possible impaired drivers before they can cause harm to innocent unsuspecting motorists traveling on our roadways.

St. Patrick's Day is on Sunday this year and that means police are gearing up for an entire weekend of St. Paddy's celebrations and warning drivers to drive sober. If you're going to drink, Haverford police say use a designated driver or make arrangements for a safe way home before you consume alcohol.

Officers from all six townships will also be looking for DUI and other violations as part of their normal duties this weekend.
