EPA To Discuss Havertown Superfund Site Next Week At Virtual Meeting

EPA officials will provide an update on ongoing efforts at the site, which is in the area of Eagle and Lawrence roads, Tuesday next week.

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — Haverford Township residents are invited to attend a virtual meeting on the United States Environmental Protection Agency's plan to assess contamination levels around the Havertown PCP Superfund site.

The meeting will be held online at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19.

EPA officials will provide an update on ongoing efforts at the polluted groundwater site, which is in the area of Eagle and Lawrence roads that was contaminated by the dumping of industrial waste by National Wood Preservers from 1947 to 1991.

Officials will share information about their plans to conduct additional deep bedrock groundwater testing to further assess contamination levels in the area.

The meeting will also include updates on the construction of a new groundwater treatment facility.

This meeting is an opportunity for residents to learn more about these environmental initiatives and ask questions directly to the EPA team.

The EPA ranked the site the eighth-worst cleanup project in the United States.

The site was added to the National Priorities List in 1983 and designated as a Superfund cleanup site in the early 1990s. Remediation and monitoring efforts are ongoing, and the EPA transferred control of the site to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection in 2013.
