Local Road Closures Announced for U.S. Open

Haverford and USGA officials meet with area residents to explain what's ahead. Road closure plans are in place, others things are still in flux.

The 2013 U.S. Open Golf tournament could well be the biggest event Haverford Township has ever hosted. With just two months to go, the countdown is on and the questions are pouring in from residents and business owners whose lives will be disrupted during the tournament.

At a Sixth Ward town meeting Wednesday at the Chestnutwold Elementary School, police presented plans for neighborhood road closures and restrictions that will be in place during the U.S. Open from June 10-16 (a rain delay make-up day would be Monday the 17th).

Neighbors had numerous questions about how to get residential parking and access passes and what to do about guest parking passes. Police and township officials have put the most current information up on the township website, including a frequently asked questions section. Information about the U.S. Open can be found in the Action Center section of the Haverford Township website.

You Have Questions, Here's Where to Find the Answers

Several questions regarding parking, including guest passes, on-street passes for houses with no driveways, access for delivery and service trucks (like landscapers or plumbers) were asked during the meeting.

Township officials say they will need to get back to residents in the coming week with answers to several questions they had not encountered in previous ward meetings about the U.S. Open. 

In the meantime, the most current information is available on the township's website.

Keep in mind that questions about parking passes, restricted areas and other vehicle-related questions are still be answered. Any new details will be posted at the same township site and Patch will also keep you posted as new information becomes available.

PennDOT Approves Road Closure Plans.

Because actually closing major streets require the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to sign off, that information is now in place. The map attached to this article shows which roads will be closed during golf action and which roads will be closed down during the duration of the Open.

If you have questions about road closures, resident permits, parking and related issues the Haverford Police Dept has also set up a link in the Action Center section of the township website.

The police department's point person for the U.S. Open is Officer Larry Howard. He told the large crowd Wednesday night that he sees and responds to every inquiry but cautioned that with volume of questions coming in as the U.S. Open draws closer it may take a day or even a few days for him to respond.
