Borough Water Lines Will Be Flushed in Late April, Early May
The Hellertown Borough Authority says the system-wide flushing is necessary, and will be the first since 2010.

customers should expect some discoloration of their water late this month and early May, as the authority conducts its first system-wide flushing of water lines since 2010.
In a press release, administrator Glenn Higbie said a full flushing of the system was not possible in 2011 because of construction projects.
The flushing of fire hydrants will take place the week of April 23 (Monday through Thursday) and the week of April 30 (Monday through Thursday), between 9am and 3pm.

"In general, the system will be flushed starting in the southern areas and move throughout the borough in a northerly direction to clear sediment from the water lines," Higbie said.
"Customers should expect to experience some discoloration or cloudiness in their water as the system is flushed but once the flushing is completed each day, the water will quickly clear," he added. "Customers should refrain from washing clothes or other laundry items during the work and minimize water usage to prevent sediment from being drawn into their facilities."
