Cheerleaders Praised for Charitable Endeavor
Team Recognized for Raising Almost $5K for Breast Cancer Awareness
Membership on the Saucon Valley High School cheerleading squad involves a lot more than shaking pom-poms and performing feats of acrobatics.
Anyone who ever doubted that this was the case was surprised Tuesday evening, when the cheerleaders filed into the Audion room at the start of the bimonthly Saucon Valley School Board meeting.
Dressed in bright pink t-shirts, the cheerleaders lined up in front of the board as coach Nancy Harte explained the reason for their visit.

Harte explained that the t-shirts being worn were designed by the cheerleaders themselves, and sold by the team in order to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and breast cancer awareness.
Thanks to the team's diligence and commitment to the cause, $4,900.34 was raised for the foundation, Harte said.

"The girls worked really hard," she told the board. "We are very proud of the girls' accomplishments."
Audience members burst into applause after hearing the amount of money raised for the Komen Foundation, and seeing a large cardboard check which was produced especially for the occasion.
"Fundraising's always difficult, but to do it for a great cause like this... You're to be commended," Superintendent Sandra Fellin told the team.
