Project Blue Light Observed in Borough
The annual observance recognizes police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice and current officers who are working to help make communities safer.
A tribute to the sacrifices made by police officers is taking place in the borough of Hellertown this week, through May 19, and local residents are being asked to show their support by participating in it.
Project Blue Light is an annual tribute to officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and coincides with National Police Week.
It's also a way for citizens to let current officers know that their efforts to help make communities safer are being recognized and appreciated.

According to information posted on the borough's website, "the idea for Project Blue Light began in 1989 when Mrs. Dolly Craig wrote to Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) to say that she would be putting two blue candles in her living room window during the holiday season: one for her son-in-law, Daniel Gleason, who had been killed in the line-of-duty while serving the Philadelphia Police Department on June 5, 1986, and one for her daughter and Danny's wife, Pam, who had been killed in an automobile accident in August of 1989."
Local residents can participate in the observance simply by placing blue candles or lights in their windows, or by decorating an outside tree or shrub with blue lights.

At the April 25 Hellertown Block Watch meeting, Officer Tim Piotrowski told attendees that "if anybody's willing to do that it would be much appreciated."
