Side Street Barricades to Go Up in Late April, Early May

to help prevent traffic displaced by  from diverting down north Hellertown side streets won't be erected until late April or early May, according to a March 30 project update shared by the on its website.

The barricades are to be installed along Main Street (Route 412) at Kichline, Kiernan, Hess and Roth avenues, and "will only be in place when the contractor is working in that area," according to the update.

Work on the 412 project--which is expected to last more than three years and cost approximately $36 million--is to begin along the east side of Main Street between Hellertown and Commerce Center Boulevard in Bethlehem, the update stated.

The main focus of the project will be widening the busy state route between the I-78 interchange and Lynn Avenue in Bethlehem, however some work--including sidewalk replacement--will be undertaken south of the interchange.

According to the March 30 update, "a complete list of addresses on Main and the side streets that will get sidewalk replacement is being compiled and will be posted on (the borough's website)."

"Other details are being worked out and more information should be available next week, along with detailed site plans," the borough said.
