What I'm Thankful For

A Cool Job (with Benefits) - And Lots of Room to Grow

I feel like I have more than usual to be thankful for this year.

I've always been blessed to have a wonderful, supportive family, along with many friends. I've always had a roof over my head, food to eat and educational opportunities that most would envy. I feel like I often take my life for granted, but overall, I would say I have been one lucky guy.

At age 33, if there was anything lacking in my life, it was a good job with benefits, and now, thanks to Patch, I feel that I have that, too.

I'm especially thankful to be working for Patch because my job as a Local Editor is much more than merely a full-time opportunity; it's an opportunity to do something I love, while learning and growing professionally.

Since starting exactly one month ago, I have already learned gobs about how to launch, edit and promote a website in the brave new world of hyperlocal, online journalism. I have also been privileged to begin working with a group of very smart, very perceptive individuals who I am now honored to call my colleagues at Patch.

Of course, this job is challenging. That's exactly what it should be, I believe.

I'm thankful for both rewards that accompany this opportunity and its challenges, which are helping me and many others like me find footing in the shifting sands of the journalism landscape that currently exists.

I hope that all of you will remember the things you are grateful for, too.

And I wish you a very happy Thanksgiving.
