The job is part-time, pays $15 an hour, with no benefits, and lasts 35 weeks. 

And interested persons must love Lansdale.

Lansdale Farmers' Market Committee member Molly Whetstone said the manager will maintain the lines of communication among vendors and with the board of directors. The manager will also respond to vendors' needs throughout the season.

"The market manager will also be responsible for raising funds through sponsorships, grants and fundraising events. They will represent and promote the market in the community, and ideally should have two or more years of relevant experience, be passionate about food, local farming and agriculture, and be knowledgeable about the Lansdale community," Whetstone said.

The market manager description requests an applicant who is experienced and self-directed and will, among other things, coordinate project management. It requires the applicant be "energetic and committed to the success of the market."

Experience with electronic media and marketing is very desirable. 

The market manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Staying onsite during market hours.
  • Recruiting vendors as needed.
  • Attending relevant committee meetings.
  • Establishing and maintaining lines of communication with farmers and other vendors: Fostering communications, responding to needs, coordinating business development assistance, troubleshooting and mediating with vendors as needed and monitoring vendors' adherence to contracts and performing business inspections.
  • Fundraising: Developing plans for targeting key community members and organizations, hosting events to raise awareness and funds for the market, identifying sponsorship and grant targets and raising funds on behalf of the market.
  • The job pays $15 per hour, part-time, for 10 to 15 hours a week for 35 weeks. 
  • Saturday attendance is mandatory.

The search for a market manager comes right when the market is showing increased growth and popularity. While the vendors have closed up their shops on Railroad Avenue in the off-season, the market committee is been busy planning for 2013.

Lansdale Farmers' Market Committee member Molly Whetstone said the market is entering its fifth successful season.

"We are expecting a great group of vendors again this year and we plan to offer even more events and educational programs for the community," she said.

Whetstone said the market committee is seeking volunteers to assist in the monthly children's storytime and crafts.

"We’re excited to be starting a recipe club this season for shoppers who would like to share their favorite recipes featuring products and produce from the market," Whetstone said. "We are always looking for folks to help with marketing, fundraising and staffing our volunteer table on Saturdays."

The Lansdale Farmers' Market runs May through November on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Railroad Avenue in downtown Lansdale.
