A Civil War Demonstration Will Take Place At A Historic Montco Farmstead This Weekend
Firing Battery F, 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery, will conduct firing demonstrations, model campsites and soldier entertainment, and more.
LANSDALE, PA — Reenactors representing those who fought in the American Civil War will drop by the Peter Wentz Farmstead this weekend to demonstrate what life was like for soldiers during one of the most tumultuous periods in United States history.
Battery F, 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery, a group representing those who fought in the Artillery branch of the U.S. Army during the Civil War between 1861 and 1865, will conduct firing demonstrations of a 10 pounder parrot rifled cannon, and they'll showcase how soldiers camped, ate and entertained themselves in the field, according to a description of the event posted on Montgomery County's website.
The description says that the battery will especially focus on members of the pacifist Schwenkfelder faith who broke norms to serve in the Civil War.

The United States Sanitary Commission is also expected to be in attendance to display how the group helped out with the war effort, with a special focus on the role of women in that agency.
A historian is scheduled to attend the event and speak about how some women secretly enlisted in the Armed Services and served up until their true identities were discovered.
