Hedwig House In Lansdale Receives A $100K State Grant For Mental Health Services
Hedwig House, a mental health treatment center located in Lansdale, received a $100,000 state grant to help with services.

LANSDALE, PA — A local mental health treatment center has received a $100,000 state grant to aid with its continued effort to improve psychiatric services in the region.
The Hedwig House, a Lansdale-based organization that offers individual and group mental rehabilitative services, was announced as the recipient of the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services grant on Wednesday.
"The last few years have shown that the need for adequate, compassionate mental health services is real and must continue to be invested in and expanded upon," State Rep. Mary Jo Daley, D-148, said in a statement. "I am proud to have played a role in obtaining this funding and will pursue every avenue available to reduce the stigma surrounding discussions of mental health, while ensuring those who need these vital services are able to access them."

The funding announcement was made jointly by Daley, whose district includes Plymouth and Whitemarsh Townships, along with fellow Montgomery County Reps. Steve Malagari, D-53, and Ben Sanchez, D-153.
Malagari, whose district includes Hedwig House, said the organization has worked tirelessly to both treat community members in need of help while also trying to end the stigma associated with mental illness.

"My sincere hope is the more we talk about mental health, and the need for places like Hedwig House, the stigma around mental health — that has existed for far too long — fades and ultimately disappears completely," Malagari said in a statement.
Sanchez, whose district is comprised of Abington and Upper Dublin Townships, said that individuals living with "severe and persistent" mental health issues can face barriers when it comes to securing employment or finding affordable housing.
"The work that Hedwig House does to help mental health consumers meet their goals and achieve a sense of stability truly does make a positive impact on people's lives," Sanchez said in a statement. "This funding will help Hedwig House continue to provide invaluable services to members of our community and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to lead healthy, productive lives."
Hedwig House offers free services to individuals ages 18 and older who reside in Montgomery County and who have been diagnosed with a mental illness.
According to its website, the organization said it is different from other mental health organizations for a number of reasons. First, it is a non-clinical organization, with no doctors, therapists, or psychologists on staff; second, it places a heavy emphasis on social skills; and lastly, it is easily accessible.
