Knapp Road Curves Now 10 MPH
PennDOT recently reduced the speed limit on the two curves on Knapp Road, which divides Lansdale Borough and Montgomery Township

Knapp Road should now be a bit safer around those infamous two curves.
Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre informed the public safety committee last week that PennDOT lowered the speed limit to 10 mph on the curves.
"They placed all new signs with extended chevrons and new high retroreflectivity standards," McDyre said. "Everything's up on both sides."

According to the Federal Highway Administration, retroreflective signs are signs where light from vehicle headlights is bounced back toward the vehicle and the driver's eyes. As a result, the signs appear brighter and easier to see and read. The FHWA believes these signs will improve highway safety and prevent crashes.

Councilman Mike Sobel, who chairs the committee, mentioned how a resident who lives on the Montgomery Township side expressed concerns at a recent construction meeting with Lansdale officials on Knapp Road roadwork.
"He was concerned with cars crashing in his front yard all the time. This should make him happy," he said. "Probably, if everybody abides by the limits, there will be less of a problem with that."
