Lansdale Borough Councilman Jason Van Dame submitted a petition Wednesday to run on the November ballot as an Independent.
Van Dame has been sitting on council since January, appointed by council to fill the vacancy left by the departure of vice president Paul Clemente.
Van Dame's seat is up for grabs in 2013.
Incumbent Democrat Mary Fuller's seat is also up for grabs.
Fuller and Jeff Howard will run on the Democrat side for the seats versus Jean Fritz and Michele Coyle for the GOP. Van Dame would be the sole Independent.
Democrat Joe Wolf was defeated in the Primary.
