Lansdale Mural Concepts Revealed at Masquerade Fundraiser

The Lansdale Mural Arts Program looks to beautify two building facades in downtown Lansdale. The public can now offer feedback for revisions of the conceptual designs.

The first two murals that will beautify two building facades in downtown Lansdale were revealed Saturday night at the Lansdale Business Association and Lansdale Mural Arts Program "Monte Carlo Murals Masquerade" fundraiser.

LBA and L-MAP put out the call in April for artists to submit concepts for murals on the side of the building that houses McQuillin Studio at Broad and Main streets and the side of the building of Tabora Farms Cafe next to Railroad Plaza.

Submissions were whittled down by an L-MAP committee to two finalists: Karin Wolfle Hendricks and Melissa Thurman, who submitted concepts for the Tabora Farms facade and the McQuillin facade, respectively.

Hendricks is the owner of The Shabby Attic in West Point, Upper Gwynedd. She received education in fine arts and painting at Slade School of Art at University College in London.

Thurman is a Temple University-Tyler School of Art fine arts graduate and former instructor and artist at Mermaid Art Studio in Ambler, according to LinkedIn.

"We are going to vet (the concepts) to the community through the media, and take feedback and comments," said Doug DiPasquale, president of the LBA. "We will then take them back to the artist for revisions."

DiPasquale said the murals would then be painted on the walls in August.

Guests at the Murals Masquerade were given feedback cards that will be used in the community involvement element of the L-MAP program, DiPasquale said.

The public can view the concepts and submit comments on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. .

The public can also view the concepts at the July First Friday in Lansdale.
