Letter: Council Candidate Wolf Wants More Transparency, Less Taxes

Hello, my name is Joe Wolf and I am running for Lansdale Borough Council, First Ward, in the Democratic Primary. I have been a resident of Lansdale Borough for over eight years. I have been employed in several professions over my lifetime. I have been a chef at various private country clubs in Montgomery County, to owning my own automotive shop. I have worked at jobs were I interacted with the public all my life. So, dealing with the public/residents is not a problem.

Concerns of mine are transparency of borough government, televising of public meetings and a commitment to lower taxes. Let's not make getting information to the people so difficult, almost a hassle. We can simplify this process.

Televising borough council meetings should be a no brainer. They televise school district meetings, why is it so difficult to televise council meetings?

A big problem I also have is the increase in taxes and fees we had in 2010-11. Real estate taxes went up dramatically in 2011. Electric rates and charges went up, which hurts the borough's competitiveness with private power companies.

lf the borough is not competitive with electric rates, this will be more difficult to keep and retain large employers.

Overall, we must do better to make Lansdale a more livable town. Taking care of residents and responding to issues is the key to good government. I believe I can do that job well for the First Ward.

Democratic voters of the First Ward, I want your support and vote on May 21.

l'm a candidate with a hand in my own pocket making change and not yours.

Thank you.
