Letter: Lansdale Democratic Mailers Misleading Public

Lansdale Borough Council Democratic candidate Robert Willi said mailers from opponents Liz Troy and Leon Angelichio are 'misleading and false.'

My name is Robert Willi and I am running for Lansdale Borough Council in Ward 3.

Recently, my opponents Leon Angelichio and Liz Troy sent out a mailer to Democrats in Ward 3 that was misleading and false.

First, let me give you their false version: "Cable companies offered to televise Lansdale's local government meetings for free, but Council said no."

Here is the fact: Council never voted on this, because it never came before council. It is still in committee and being reviewed. Plus it is not free. Cameras and other equipment would have to be bought at borough (taxpayer) cost. The only thing that would be free is the government access channel that would broadcast it.

Their other false statement is that they want to make government documents and records more accessible. Fact is that documents are up on the borough website the day of any council meeting. You see what the council members see.  This includes any bills over $1,000.

As far as records being accessible, all that anyone has to do is go to borough hall and request the record they want to see, and it will be provided. I have done this myself. There is a small fee if you want copies made, but you are allowed to read for free in borough hall any record that you request.

Mr. Angelichio and Ms Troy say they are for an open and honest government, yet they are not open, nor are they honest in their mailer.

They want to distort the truth and hope they won't be discovered. These are not the people we need representing Lansdale.  Lansdale deserves better.

On May 21, I ask that you cast your vote for me, Robert Willi, and for Richard Strahm.

Lansdale residents shouldn't have to worry that their council members are misleading them, as Angelichio and Troy are trying to do with their mailers.
