Hello,
My name is Sara McConnell. I am currently in a mentorship with Councilwoman Mary Fuller. I am writing this so that everyone knows how great a person she is. She is so dedicated to making Lansdale a better place that she puts in hours and hours of her spare time into coming up with new ways to make the borough better.
I contacted Mrs. Fuller last spring about possibly becoming my mentor. I explained that the mentorship would be a part of the Gifted Mentorship program of North Penn High School.

I told her that I realized that she is a very busy woman, as I could see from her list of duties on the borough website. However, that is exactly why I wanted her to be my mentor. The fact that she is a mom, has a job, and can still find the time to part-take in so many committee's astounded me.
I wanted to learn not just about politics, but how she was able to juggle all of her duties and still be so full of energy to come with new proposals, like the skate park that will be coming.

I had originally looked at mentoring with the Hatfield Borough, since that is the town I live in, but compared to Mrs. Fuller, I knew that I would be able to learn so much more if I chose her to be my mentor. I met with her to layout the mentorship, and the first thing she said was how she was so happy that I had chosen her to be my mentor and that she would be willing to help me with anything that came up.
On top of juggling all of her normal duties as a mother, wife, employee and as a councilmember, she did not hesitate in accepting a new challenge and responsibility of being my mentor. That was the first moment I realized how great she was.
I meet with Councilwoman Fuller almost every week and we discuss any questions I come up with when I attend council meetings. At the meetings, I normally observe and take notes and jot down anything I do not understand in order to ask her about it the next time I see her. She always tries to answer my questions as well and as truthfully as she can. She leaves out no tiny details, which helped me immensely in writing my research paper on this topic.
She even goes as far as pointing out things that I should look for at the next meeting. At the council work sessions, I attend the Parks and Rec Committee and the Public Safety Committee with her, though those are only two of the many committees she is on.
At the meetings, she makes everything seem fun, but at the same time, she always helps accomplish what is on the agenda. She tries to answer the public's questions as best she can and has no problem pausing the meeting to explain something to others. I have noticed that she is very thorough in her work and does her best to help to help other councilmembers.
Councilwoman Fuller is an amazing woman. I am so lucky that she is my mentor and could not have thought of a better person to teach me firsthand about politics. I hope she wins the upcoming election so the next student has the same chance I did working with her. From everything I have observed this year, I honestly do not think that there is any better politician than Councilwoman Fuller.
She does not play the game of politics. She plays for the people she represents and that's what makes her the best person to represent others.
Thank you,
Sara McConnell
