Montgomery Pastor Steals, Gets Jail for Insurance Scam

Kyung Soon Kim, 53, of Robertson Court, will spend two consecutive weekends in prison for his role in an insurance scam with his business associate in 2008.

A South Korean pastor from Montgomery Township broke the Eighth Commandment, according to The Reporter, when he committed theft and conspiracy theft in 2008, for agreeing to take part in an insurance scam involving his business associate and her son’s Lexus.

Kyung Soon Kim, 53, of the 100 block of Robertson Court, was sentenced to two consecutive weekends in the county jail, according to the article, after pleading guilty to the aforementioned charges. Kim also has to pay $24,554 in restitution to Liberty Mutual Insurance.

Kim’s business associate, Kathleen Bangwhan Chung, 69, of Philadelphia, has already pleaded guilty to making false reports to an insurance company and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, according to court records.

According to court records, Chung’s son bought a 2008 Lexus, but left to work in South Korea in December 2007 and never picked up the car.

Kim had possession of the car for one year and racked up 45,000 miles, according to the complaint. In December 2008, Chung reported the car stolen from Cheltenham; Liberty Mutual paid out $42,053 for the claim, according to the complaint.

Investigators found that the Lexus was actually in Kim’s garage from December 2008 to 2011.
