Oversize Load Baffles Readers, Closes Road in Lansdale
Broad and Vine streets in Lansdale were closed briefly Wednesday afternoon as an oversize load of a transformer made it's way over to Railroad Avenue.
An oversize load was captured in a few readers' Smartphone cameras Wednesday afternoon on Broad Street in Lansdale, between Hancock Street and Main Street.
Undoubtedly, pictures were snapped because of its sheer size: The monstrous structure was a 500,000-pound PP&L transformer, and even looked like a piece of a Transformer®. It is headed to Elroy, Hatfield Township, coming from Plymouth Meeting.
"So, in short it's just passing through the borough," said Lansdale Communications Coordinator Tracy Flynn.

According to a Facebook commenter, Miller Brothers Electrical Contractors had to raise traffic signals and utility wires to get the transformer to borough hall.
"It was quite impressive in size and procedure to get it through traffic lights," Flynn said.

A photo on Montella's Facebook showed the truck and trailer hauling the oversize load driving up Railroad Avenue.
