Second Suspicious Device Reported at North Penn

Towamencin Township Police, Montgomery County Bomb Squad and Montgomery County HAZMAT destroyed the first suspicious device Wednesday morning outside North Penn High School.

North Penn School District officials confirm a second suspicious device has been found at North Penn High School in Towamencin Township.

Sources told Patch the device was found near the greenhouse and is similar to the device found Wednesday morning.

Towamencin Vol. Fire Co. officials also responded to the scene.

 Towamencin Township Police said.

Police said officers responded for the report of another suspicious item at 2:27 p.m. in the “C” parking lot area for an investigation of a similar device.

The device was destroyed by a pellet gun, according to the district.

The device was turned over to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety Hazardous Materials Unit for further examination, police said.

Police said specific results of testing of the contents of the first device are not being released as it is part of an ongoing investigation.

A statement from North Penn School District on its website reported that an analysis of the suspicious bottle found Wednesday morning outside of the school did not contain a hazardous substance.

The second bottle was found after students were dismissed for the day, according to North Penn. Remaining students were kept away from the scene.

"NPHS staff continues to be vigilant in keeping your children safe and is working with local law enforcement to determine who is involved with today’s actions," said the statement. "Please speak with your children about the seriousness of the situation,and please know that those involved will face disciplinary consequences from both the school and law enforcement agencies."
