Shredding, Recycling, Gardening Demos at Mall Earth Day Event

Montgomery Mall and Montgomery Township Environmental Advisory Committee host the annual Earth Day celebration Saturday. There is also residential paper shredding and electronics recycling.

The Montgomery Township Environmental Advisory Committee is partnering with Montgomery Mall to celebrate the worth of Earth.

On Saturday,

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., outside the lower Macy’s, visitors can obtain information and view demos on composting, raised bed gardens, rain barrels, and stormwater management. This area will have children’s crafts, as well as local bike safety and trail guides.

At 11:30 a.m., Briar Bush Nature Center will have demonstrations with their animals.

Laura Duff, of Montgomery Township, said participating organizations abound this year: Penn State Cooperative Extension, PowerSave Schools, Bridle Path Green Team, Penndale Middle School ENACT Group, and FDMT, to name a few.

While the event goes on inside the mall, Earth Day awareness continues outside the mall in Dick’s Sporting Goods parking lot with a paper shredder and electronic recycling event, rain or shine. No TVs, please.

Free shredding for residents is limited to three file size boxes. Businesses are excluded from the shredding event. You can shred from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Electronic recycling, sponsored by 1-800-GOT-JUNK, runs from 10 a.m. to noon.

“We’re excited to partner with the EAC to host an event that is not only fun and entertaining for customers but also offers incredibly useful information on becoming more eco-friendly,” said Ashley Pompei, director of marketing at Montgomery Mall.
