HARRISBURG, PA — A local state senator who represents Lansdale and nearby areas has announced that he will not seek reelection, and that he plans to retire from his elected position when his current term ends in 2023.

State Sen. Bob Mensch, 76, a Republican who represents Pennsylvania's 24th Senatorial District, says after 16 years in state government he was ready to take some time for himself and his family, and that long work weeks have taken their toll on his personal life.

"[My] announcement to retire is being made now to allow plenty of time for candidates to come forward to campaign and be vetted by voters. I hope to see the best and the brightest and the properly motivated person win the candidacy to continue the service in the 24th," Mensch told Town And County, a publication serving the Upper Perkiomen Valley.
