Dispose of Unwanted Medicines at Police Departments on Saturday

Macungie and Alburtis Police officers will collect old and unwanted prescription medication Oct. 29 as part of national Take-Back Day.

Lower Macungie Patch residents can safely as part of the third annual national Take-Back Day project.

Medications can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 21 Locust St., and at the , 260 Franklin St.

Police will collect prescription and over-the-counter medications including liquid products and creams in containers. Syringes will not be accepted.

Officials say keeping outdated or unwanted medicines at home poses a danger to children, teens and older adults.

In 2010, Lehigh County police collected almost 193 pounds of pills and capsules. In April 2011, the collection took in almost 1,008 pounds of medications.
