February Meltdown

Like magic, a few days of unseasonably warm temperatures transform mounds of snow into streams of runoff.

It was nice while it lasted with temperatures in the 60s over the past couple of days, and there were some decided signs that winter will not last forever.

Some of the horrendous amounts of snow melted and folks -- and animals -- were able to get out and about.

But the National Weather Service says a high wind warning is in effect until 9 p.m. tonight in Lehigh and Northampton counties.

A sustained northwest wind of 25-35 mph could include gusts up to 60 mph especially this afternoon and early this evening.

"Widespread power outages are possible, downed trees and tree limbs may danage structures and vehicles," it says, and "the wind will make driving difficult, especially on bridges and overpasses.

But it was enough of a taste of spring to realize that we'll see the warm weather again soon.
