5. Today in History: On this day in 1904, aspiring writer James Joyce met his future wife, Nora Barnacle, a lively, uneducated woman with little interest in literature. Joyce immortalized this day -- Bloomsday -- in his masterpiece Ulysses, whose narrative unfolds entirely on June 16, 1904. The name derives from Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of Ulysses, and the day is still celebrated in Dublin.
