Get Out: Five Things to Do This Weekend

1. Holy Smoke Chicken BBQ, Yard and Bake Sale

When/Where: Sponsored by Solomon United Church of Christ, the yard and bake sales begin at 9 a.m. April 28. Take-out only chicken BBQ runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Macungie Memorial Park.

Why Go: The sale includes all kinds of household items and is traditionally a fun event with some great bargains.

Pricing: Tickets are $8 for a dinner of chicken, baked potato, applesauce and roll. Buying tickets in advance is highly recommended as there will be a limited number of extra dinner available. Contact a church member or call 610-966-3086 for tickets.

2. Community Fun Day: Emmaus Public Library Book Sale and Nutrition Fair

When/Where: Events begin at 7 a.m. April 28 at Lower Macungie Middle School

Why Go: A fire safety house,  exhibits by first responder units and costumed characters will make special appearances, plus the day includes the 14th annual used book sale sponsored by the Friends of the Emmaus Public Library and a children’s health and safety fair organized by The Nutrition Group, the food service company of the East Penn School District.

Pricing: Free, except for whatever you spend on books.

3. Nashville Comes North

When/Where: 5:30 p.m. April 29 at the Macungie Institute

Why Go: Appearing with songwriter Jackie Tice in this second installment of the series will be music industry veteran Larry Ahearn, Canadian singer/songwriter and activist Amy Campbell and NJ's all-american boy Arlon Bennett.

Pricing: $10 in advance at listenlivemusic.org or at the door. Seating is limited to 50. Fruit and cheese plates, pasteries, desserts and snacks, coffee, tea, soda, water will also be available.

When/Where: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28-29 at the Alburtis Nimrods, 8830 Mountain Road.

Why Go: Kids compete Saturday and adults on Sunday.

Pricing: Club membership fee.

When/Where: 11 a.m. April 28 and daily through May 20 at 1770 Pleasant View Rd, Coopersburg.

Why Go: Every two years the Society of the Arts takes over a home at and in which designers take a room or section of yard and work their magic. It's spectacular.
