Summer Movie: 'Grease'

Uh-oh, those su-uh-mmer ni-hights!

Nothing says summer like watching Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta pretend they don't like each other for two hours until they finally just succumb like the movie "Grease."

Released in the summer of 1978, you may recall good girl Sandy meets greaser Danny over the summer and when they meet up at school in the fall, as hard as they try, they just don't fit each other's mold.

But the best part is the music. You could just belt out any one of those songs right now...couldn't you. Last summer, in fact, a purely sing-a-long version of the movie was released will all the words on the screen for the viewer's warbling pleasure.

Unfortunately, it was only released in California and Texas. Had we known it might have been a vacation destination.

It's good for all ages, though I did know a high school music director who forbade it at one time because the characters disobeyed their parents too much and he didn't want to foster that kind of behavior. But high schools produce it all over the place now. Just think of the hand-eye coordination a younger kid could develop just by practicing "Hand Jive." Seriously.
