Macungie Streetscape Plan Moves Forward

Macungie's streetscape plan inches forward.

In an attempt to re-ignite the Macungie streetscape plan, Council President Christopher Becker held a meeting of the minds on Feb. 25 to get a feel for how such a plan might be received.

He invited borough business owners and emergency personnel so he could hear first from people who are concerned with lives and livelihoods.

"The consensus is that they're interested," Becker said.

And the reasons they're interested are that plans that could include a center island of trees and intersections with curb bump-outs will calm traffic and improve the character and look of Main Street, he said.

One possible fly in the ointment is that Macungie's Main Street may already be too heavily traveled to accommodate such a plan, but a traffic survey already planned to assess the need for a light at Church and Main streets will also reveal the viability of a streetscape plan, he said.

But for now Becker is happy with the acceptance he has found.
