Veterinarian Charged in Slaying of Pregnant Lower Macungie Vet Tech

 A veterinarian has been charged in the homicide of pregnant vet tech Jennifer Snyder, who was found shot to death in woods near Trexler Nature Preserve in North Whitehall Township last Friday.

Pennsylvania State Police at Bethlehem held a news conference at 2 p.m. today to release further information about their investigation.

David A. Rapoport, 30, of Lansdale, has been charged with the death of both Snyder and her unborn child. He is jailed in Lehigh County Prison.

Snyder's roommate, Hilary Schaivone, identified Rapoport in court papers as the father of Snyder's unborn child.

Rapoport and Snyder worked together at Maple Hills Veterinary Hospital, but Rapoport left that practice about a year ago, Schiavone said.

Rapoport is married, according to his biography posted on the website of his employer.

Rapoport's arrest "makes sense to me and to everybody here," Schiavone told Patch on Tuesday morning. She said he worked there for two years and left a year ago because his contract was up and he wanted to work closer to his Lansdale home.

"He was very quiet," Schiavone said, "He was the shy, nerdy, studious type."

Police last week called Snyder an “endangered” missing person. Investigators found a car stained with blood and containing bullet casings. A search through woods led to Snyder’s body.

A website for Harleysville Vet Hospital says Rapoport went to work there in 2010. A biography of Rapoport posted on the website says the vet lives in Lansdale with his wife and two beagles.

The bio further gives his background as "Dr. Rapoport grew up in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania. He received is B.S. in biology and Spanish from Muhlenberg College in 2002. Following graduation he worked as a research specialist for the University of Pennsylvania department of neurobiology before attending veterinary school. He earned his V.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008 and immediately began his veterinary career in general practice before joining Harleysville Veterinary Hospital in the summer of 2010."
