Andrew Mason Wins in Landslide at 107th Open Championship
The Huntingdon Valley Country Club member took advantage of playing at his home course and was the only golfer in the tournament to shoot under par during Wednesday's 36-hole event.
The heat was probably the toughest thing Andrew Mason had to deal with during the 107th Open Championship at the Huntingdon Valley Country Club.
Mason, a 22-year-old senior at Temple University and HVCC member, destroyed his competition by firing a 5-under par to win the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s third oldest tournament last Wednesday.
He was the only player to finish under par and he beat out second-place finisher Stuart Ingraham by seven strokes. Mason becomes just the eighth amateur to win the Open, and fourth player from HVCC to win the tourney on the home course.

Mason's five-under par 135 set a course record with a 65 in the first round. He thought having the “home-course advantage” would pay off, and boy did it. He came out firing with the first group of the day and birdied his first five holes.
“I thought the home course advantage would be big but you have to play well to take advantage of that,” said Mason in an interview after the tournament.
