After multiple lead changes and shifts in momentum every half inning, the Huntingdon Valley American Legion team won for the second time in as many games with a 7-6 win over Fort Washington on Sunday.
With the score tied late in the game, HVβs Chris Ruhl came up with the biggest hit on the young season, an RBI-single down the left field line to give his team the lead for good and a 2-0 record right out of the gate.

Pitcher Brian Camp went the distance on the mound for the second straight game, allowing nine hits and striking out eight over seven innings. HV's 11-hit attack was lead by Cheltenham sophomore Matthew Meyers, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Matt Hyman also chipped in going 2-for-3 at the dish.
Fort Washington put a rally together in the 7th with runners on first and second with one out, but the tough right-hander struck out the final two batters to put the game in the win column for HV.

"Here we go again" an excited coach Evan Horn said, "It seems like it can be someone different every night for us with the big hit tonight it was the 'Big Cat' Ruhl's turn. We are playing with such confidence so early in the season, I hope it continues because I know how hard baseball can be on the mind once things go bad. I really like the fact that the kids are responding to me."
The game featured big inning after big inning before Huntingdon Valley delivered the final blow to Fort Washington. Both teams found ways to answer the other until the final frame.
The go-ahead run was plated thanks to some small ball as Jesse Goldstein led off with a single, and then was bunted over to second by Jesse Licht before eventually being driven in by Ruhl.
HV is back in action Tuesday night hosting Horsham at 6:00 p.m.
Trailing 2-0, HV plated four runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Meyers doubled home the first run of the game, and then Jack Titus walked to load the bases. Goldstein came up and drew a walk to score the second HV run of the frame. After a Jeff Licht single gave HV the lead, 3-2, Paul Buckley followed with a fielderβs choice to make it a 4-2 lead.
After Fort Washington came back to tie the game the next inning, Meyers connected for his second double of the game to give his team a 5-4 edge. Jake Madnick then chipped in with an RBI-single to extend the advantage to 6-4.
Fort Washington once again battled back to tie the game with runs in the 4th and 5th innings.
