Fatal Accident Claims Life Of Pedestrian In Montgomery County

The identity of the person struck and killed by a vehicle in Lower Moreland Township Saturday evening has not yet been released.

LOWER MORELAND, PA — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in this eastern Montgomery County community this weekend.

Lower Moreland Police said the accident occurred on Saturday evening at around 7:31 p.m. along the 3300 block of Philmont Avenue.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a struck pedestrian.

The pedestrian was killed during the incident, although police are withholding any identifying information at this time pending family notifications.

Police did not release the name of the driver, who is said to be cooperating with authorities.

It was not immediately clear whether or not the driver would face any criminal charges in connection with the fatality.

Lower Moreland Police Lieutenant Scott Smith told Patch that the stretch of Philmont Avenue where the accident took place was closed off to vehicle traffic for about six hours while investigators tended to the scene.

Smith did not offer any additional details about the incident, including what might have caused the crash, as he said the department is continuing to investigate.
