Kids Can Search for 9,000 Eggs at Cairnwood

Cairnwood Estate in Bryn Athyn is hosting free Victorian Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 31.

Cairnwood Estate in Bryn Athyn is inviting area families to shake off the winter doldrums by searching for some 9,000 colorful plastic eggs filled with candy at its Victorian Easter Egg Hunt March 31.

The free activity will be held at 10 a.m. on the expansive lawns and in the beautiful gardens of the more than century-old mansion at 1005 Cathedral Road. Designed by the renowned architectural firm Carrère and Hastings, Cairnwood was the home of industrialist John Pitcairn and his family.

Sponsored by the Academy of the New Church Performing Arts Department, Pennypack Preschool and New Church LIVE, the hunt is open to children 12 years old and younger, with a designated area for those younger than 3. The Cairnwood Estate staff will dress in Victorian outfits, and “some other little surprises” will be among eggs filled with candy, said Shannon Walko, Cairnwood’s marketing and sales manager.

Attendees are asked to bring an Easter basket to collect the eggs.

“It’s a great way to kick off the spring and spend time outside in front of this historic treasure,” said Walko. “It’s going to be really fun. After a long winter, it was appealing to us to invite families to come and enjoy the grounds at springtime.”
