Lions Pick Up Win with Clutch Hit, Complete Game

Lower Moreland earned a 5-4 win over New Hope on Thursday.

The Lower Moreland Lions varsity baseball team beat New Hope in dramatic fashion on Thursday. The Lions trailed the entire ballgame until sophomore Jordan Pocrass hit a 2-run blast to left center field in the top of the 7th inning to give the Lions their first lead all game.

Pitcher Mark Rushton shut the door in the final inning tossing a 1-2-3 bottom of the 7th to toss the complete game and help lead Lower Moreland to a 5-4 win. It was Rushton's first complete game in his four-year varsity career. He scattered six hits, allowed three runs and stuck out three batters.

Max Sandberg had three hits and Jack Titus chipped in with two playing third base for the first time as a varsity player. Lions head coach Dennis Murphy called the victory a "character win."

Junior pitcher Mark Dougherty said, "It was one of the greatest games I've ever been apart of. This was a huge win for the baseball program here at Lower Moreland. You should of seen Murph's face on the bus."

The Lions are right back at it today squaring off against Bishop McDevitt in a non-league game at 3:45. The Lions stand at 8-7 overall for the season, and are third place in the Bicentennial League with a 7-4 mark. Springfield (10-1) and Devon Prep (8-1) are ahead of LM.

Lower Moreland has four games remaining, closing the season out against Bristol on May 15 at home.
