LM Football Team Raises Over $2K with Hopkins Ford Fundraiser

The Lower Moreland football team partnered with Hopkins Ford back in May. A check was presented to the team at a picnic last night.

Hopkins Ford teamed up with the Lower Moreland football program to help raise money with a fundraiser on May 21. Along with other members of the community, a total of $2,040 was raised as part of Ford Motor Company's Drive One 4 UR School program.

People were given the opportunity to test drive numerous Ford model cars at the high school in the spring, and for each of the 120 LM area residents that took a spin, a $20 donation was made towards the school's athletic program.

While the team gathered for an indoor picnic and team pictures last night at the high school, Ford Hopkins Parts & Service director Steve Jenet was on hand to present the check.

"Not every dealsership gets to do this. There's only a handful across the country, so we were fortunate enough to be accepted," Jenet said. "We advertised the event; we brought 15 cars here. They recruit people to come out and test drive the cars. For every car that's test driven, Ford and Hopkins donated $20.

"It was a great day," Jenet added. "We had a lot of people from the dealership; there were players, coaches, people organizing it. It was the first one that we ever done as a dealership so I had no idea what to expect."

LM got a good turnout and the dealership hopes to be a partner in next year's event. But in the mean time, the Lions will use their new funds to help pay for team meals, transportation and any other costs they may encounter along the way during the season.

"With all of the cutbacks in school budgets, finding creative ways to fund-raise is imperative," LM Football Parents Club president Lori Kennedy said. "What they're doing is a blessing for our students, and it says a lot about who they are as a company. They money raised on May 21 will help support our football organization."

Since the program's inception in 2007, Drive 4 UR School has offered 275,000 test drives at more than 1,500 events to generate over $5 million for high schools all over the country.

"The amount of money that it takes to run these programs is tremendous, and fundraisers usually have very little in the way of profit. But this one I thought was very easy, it didn't cost much at all, and everyone had fun," Jenet said.
