Lower Moreland Season Ends with Loss to Bishop Shanahan

Bishop Shanahan won 54-51 over Lower Moreland in the District 1 Class AAA Playoff Quarterfinals on Saturday, February 25.

The Lower Moreland varsity boys basketball team had its season come to an end on Saturday. Playing as the third-seed in the District 1 Class AAA quarterfinals, Lower Moreland fell to Bishop Shanahan at home, 54-51.

Lower Moreland was down by only two points in the closing seconds of the game but had a costly turnover and was forced to foul with 2 seconds left. Bishop Shanahan sank a free throw to end it. LM senior Mike Mangan led all scorers with 19 points while teammate Demetri Zoubroulis chipped in with 13.

But even if the 2011-12 campaign ended a couple games shy of when the Lions wanted it to, it still can’t take away from the success the team achieved this season. LM clinched a share of the Bicentennial League title for the first time in school history and will have a banner to show for it. It only lost one league game during the regular season (finished 16-9 overall) and earned a spot in the BAL title game against Holy Ghost where it nearly came up with the victory.
