Lower Moreland Police Log: Fires, Fraud and Theft

The following incidents were reported by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

August 22 - Theft

  • 3500 block of Buck Road

Sometime between Aug. 18-22 a theft took place in owner Ronald Meleco's driveway. His truck bed was entered by force and the front corners were pried off until the rivets in the hinges broke. Items taken include: crystals for hanging plant holders ($150) and four rivets to hard bed cover ($50).

August 21 - Fire

  • 2191 Jefferson Lane

The Huntingdon Valley Fire Company and Lower Moreland Police Department were called out to Jefferson Lane for a dwelling fire. When the fire company arrived, there was a visible fire coming from the roof. The only person in the house was caretaker Svitlana Sachenkova, who said the roof had been struck by lightning during the storm.

Sachenkova also said there was smoke coming from Samsung 55-inch plasma TV on the first floor. Sachenkova poured water on it, but it didn't help, according to reports.

The homeowners, Gennady and Margaret Grayfer, had been on vacation since Aug. 16. They returned to Philadelphia International Airport later that day and will be staying with relatives in the area.

August 21 - Theft

  • Walter Tree Care, Inc. - 1712 Byberry Rd.

An employee at Walter Tree Care, Inc. noticed that several items were missing from a shed. Items taken include: 6 chain saws, 2 leaf blowers, 1 hedge trimmer, a bag of rope, two coolers and drinks out of the refrigerator. The total estimated cost of the belongings is $5,000.

The owner of the land, Cameron Childs, employs Will Doerr as part of Landsculpters. Doerr told Childs at some time during the week of Aug. 15 that his bother, John Doerr, told Will that he was going to rob the shed on the property. John was a former employee and was laid off for not showing up to work one day. He also has a history of thefts. Childs indicated that Will is willing to cooperate and provide a statement to the police.

August 20 - Fraud - Credit Cards/ATM

  • 640 Red Lion Rd.

James Bobb, 55, reported that he received three packages that he did not order. All three packages contained sneakers from Sears purchased with his Citizens' Bank debit card.

The first packaged included a pair of sneakers and work boots which were sent to Kentucky. The second package included a pair of sneakers and a Playstation 3 which was sent to Florida, and the final order was the as the second, which was also sent to Florida.

Bobb contacted the Sears fraud department and has since canceled his credit card.

August 18 - Criminal Mischief

  • 140 block of Tomlinson Road

Sam Israeli, 38, reported damage to one of his vehicles at Quality Auto Care, 141 Tomlinson Rd. A black, 1997 BMW parked in the lot had the letters "FU" carved into the front passenger side door. He indicated that the car is for sale and this type of damage has happened before to other vehicles in the past.

Israeli believes the damage was done some time between Aug. 15-18. He stated he would repair the damage himself, but it would cost around $150.

August 17 - Theft

  • 3300 block of Woodland Circle

Kim Lewin, 37, reported that her vehicle was broken into while she was playing tennis at the Delaware Valley Tennis Club. Lewin's blue Kia Sedona had its driver's side window smashed in.

Lewin discovered several items missing from the car, including her wallet containing credit cards, a black LG Verizon phone and a Garmin GPS.
