Lower Moreland School Board Directors Deny Funds for Charter Schools

The School District Board of Directors recently passed a resolution to oppose public funding to charter and cyber-charter schools.

The discussion of using public tax dollars to help fund charter schools and cyber-charter schools was brought to the forefront at recent school board meetings in Lower Moreland.

At its most recent meeting, the LM School District Board of Directors passed a resolution to oppose that payment, stating:

β€œWhereas the Lower Moreland Township School District places a high value on academic achievement, financial accountability and operational transparency for educating students at public expense.”

Additional reasons for not wanting to use tax dollars to fund the carter and cyber-charter schools:

  • Lack of evaluation for charter and cyber-charter schools
  • No comparison for billed payments and the actual training costs
  • No public evaluation system for teachers and administration
  • Financial records are not open to the public
  • School boards are not elected by the public and do no require public meetings
  • Parents don’t have equal student achievements to compare public to charter/cyber-charter schools.
