Lower Moreland School District Welcomes New Athletic Director

Danielle Turner, formerly the athletic director in Central Bucks, started in Lower Moreland Monday. She was welcomed by the school board.

LOWER MORELAND, PA β€” The Lower Moreland School Board on Tuesday formally welcomed the district’s new athletic director, Danielle Turner, who started her position earlier this week.

Turner is the former athletic director at the Central Bucks School District, and she is heavily involved in the Pennsylvania school sports community.

Turner received a round of applause at the board meeting upon her introduction. She took over the athletic director position at Lower Moreland from Matt Heiland, who has since begun working as athletic director for the Upper Dublin School District.

Turner told the school board that she was happy to be hired at Lower Moreland. She signaled that her little time in the district thus far has given her hope about the future of her employment with the eastern Montgomery County district.

β€œIt’s just been a wonderful first two days here,” Turner said at the meeting. β€œThe kids have been great, the coaches have been fantastic. Fall sports are off to a good start. Just excited to be here and be part of the Lower Moreland community so thank you for the opportunity.”

In 2019, Turner was named the Athletic Director of the Year by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association. At the time, she was still employed as the athletic director in Central Bucks.

A CBSD announcement back in 2019 regarding the accolade said that in connection with Turner’s award, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association would be providing a scholarship to one senior at each of that district’s three high schools.

β€œYour fellow athletic administrators and PSADA are recognizing you for your efforts, your dedication, your leadership, and your achievements in athletic administration,” the PSADA said in a statement back in 2019 when Turner was honored with that organization’s award. β€œPlease be aware that you have made a difference for student athletes and coaches and this award recognizes that fact.”

In a statement at the time, Turner said she was honored to be named as the 2019 Athletic Director of the Year, and that she is always proud to be β€œsurrounded by so many talented student-athletes and excellent athletic administrators and coaches …”

In addition to her new athletic director role at Lower Moreland, Turner is also the PIAA District 1 Treasurer, as well as that organization’s girl’s athletic representative and competitive spirit chairperson.

The PIAA District 1 organizes district playoffs for high schools in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware Counties, according to the organization’s website.

Additionally, Turner serves as a faculty member on the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, and she is a NIAAA publications committee member, according to her resume, which was read off during the school board meeting.

According to an online bio, Turner graduated from La Salle University, where she was the captain and four-year starter on the women’s soccer team, and she started her athletic administration career back in 2005 as athletic director at her alma mater, Nazareth Academy High School in Northeast Philadelphia.
