The man charged with the death of Lower Moreland's Jeanne Edwards Says He Meant Suicide

William Tomas Torres, 63, of Elkton, Md., told a jury at his murder trial Tuesday that he meant to kill himself, and not Jeanne Edwards.

LOWER MORELAND, PA β€” A Maryland man who stands accused of first-degree murder in the death of his former girlfriend reportedly told a jury during his homicide trial Tuesday that he never meant to kill the Lower Moreland woman in November 2019, and that he had actually intended to kill himself in front of her with the pump action shotgun he purchased before going to her Huntingdon Valley home.

William Tomas Torres, 63, of Elkton, Md., took the stand in his own defense Tuesday and told the jury that the killing was a β€œterrible accident,” and that he actually meant to commit suicide in front of then-girlfriend Jeanne Edwards, 57, because she had said hurtful things to him on the phone earlier as their relationship fell apart, according to a report in the Pottstown Mercury newspaper, which is covering the trial.
